It was the final race night before the USAC/NMMRA Non Wing Sprint Cars come into town, and the track was in great shape. The track was so great that even Sherman Barnett said "This track was the best it has been in 30 years". Well, let's get to the news. It was a great track for the return of the USRA Dirt Modifieds, Super Trucks, D&S Street Stocks, and the CDM Late Models.
The CDM Late Models came out for their main event and boy, were they fast. Dave Deetz, after dominating his heat race, starts on the pole for the main. The green waves and in the first lap he is leading by a straight away!! Garrett Alberson, with problems in his 43, is going at it for your top five. But you know Mr. Sherman Barnett is on the move in his full blown Late Model. He works himself into second. Now, he has to gain the whole straight away between Deetz and him. Deetz continues to lead. The bottom line came into play big time for Sherman. At the stripe with one to go, Barnett goes all out for the lead!! He takes the lead and throttles the 82 to victory lane.
The Super Trucks come out for their main event. It was Kenny Alons on the pole. The green flag waved and he was not to be seen or touched. He took off like a hungry bear was chasing him!! Ismael Garcia and Sherman Barnett would try to catch up to him but they just were not as fast. Kenny Alons ended up in victory lane.
The USRA Street Stocks come onto the racing surface next. 15 cars made the call. Gil Almanza will take the lead early on. Gill was just dominating until lap traffic started to slow him down. The 99 was leading until the whole field got passed by Donavon Flores. Flores continued to run his line around the racing surface, until he switched to the low line making the pass on Gil Almanza. Gil used the middle, but the bottom of the track was just faster. So, it was the 07 of Donavon Flores once again in victory lane.
The USRA Dirt Modifieds come out for their 20 lap main event. Tom Georges is looking for another win in his little old Race Barn chassis. The green flag waved and Jake O`Neil, making the return to Park, would show the way. A couple of laps in, Jake would spin it in turn 2, forcing him to go to the back. On the restart Dr. Tom Georges  showed the way. The BRAND NEW  G17 of Fito Gallardo would move into second quickly!! As he did, his son, Jacob Gallardo would follow. Now the Gallardos will run 2nd and 3rd. Later on they will get past Tom Geroges. Fito is just getting around that track super quick! Fito wins in convincing fashion. Jacob Gallardo would finish 2nd to his dad. BUT!! in the tech area Fito didn't have the RPM chip in his MSD ignition box!! It came off during the race!! So, Fito Gallardo is disqualified. Therefore, Jacob would end up with the win at the El Paso Speedway Park for the USRA Dirt Modifieds.
Well, that does it for us at the El Paso Speedway Park. This Friday night is going to be one of the best Non Wing Sprint car shows we will see!! Over 40 non wings are already checked in, including 5 times Arizona Sprint Car Champ Charles Davis, Jr., a huge fan favorite. And that's not including our local racers who will be taking off their wings to join the fray. So, make your plans to join us at the Park this Friday night.
